As a visitor to Canada, you are entitled to a rebate of the (7%) Canadian Federal Goods and Services Tax (GST) you pay on accommodations (room only) and most items you purchase and take home. When you make purchases in Canada, credit card slips must have detailed backup receipts with a GST number. Be sure to ask for detailed receipts with a GST number so you can claim your refund.
Daily exemption = $200 per person Monthly exemption = $800 after a 48-hour stay in Canada, you are entitled to import up to $400 worth of goods including alcohol (1 liter per adult 21 years of age or older, 200 cigarettes and 100 cigars, free of tax and duty. Family members can combine their $400 per person monthly import privileges. |
