Cherry Lane Shopping Centre, along with its owners and management company recognize that sustainability is an important part of retail business. Tenants and shoppers alike are partners when it comes to the shopping center’s impact on the environment and overall sustainable practices.

Below are just a few examples of how Cherry Lane works to minimize environmental impact and strives to provide responsible business practices.

Achieved Boma Best – Sustainable Bronze Certification 2025-2028
As of 2024 we have reduced our power usage by 11%
Achieved Boma Best certification in 2021
Planted new drought resistant plants to the property (including along Atkinson Street)
Installed a drip system for the exterior plants to reduce water usage
Replaced florescent lighting in the interior common area of the shopping centre with LED lighting
Replace halogen acorn lights with new accent LED cobra lights for the parking area and outside walkways
Preparing to replace halogen wall lights outside with LED lighting
Waste/Paper/Bottle separation bins in the food court
Metal/electrical recycling program in place
Domestic hot water boiler decommissioned to reduce carbon emissions
Radiant heat boilers were decommissioned to reduce carbon emissions
Switched to green chemicals for cleaning
Replacing older heat exchangers with cleaner energy for heating in the back hallways
Consultations for solar energy

London Drugs
London Drugs takes pride on the recycling initiatives offered. We accept everything that we sell back for recycling, including all packaging, with the exceptions being pressured canisters such as propane tanks. We also only accept items from normal household use, nothing in large batches from industry use. We are one of the very few companies that recycles Styrofoam. Save On Foods
We accept the following items from our customers (purchased in our store) for recycling purposes: Batteries, reusable bags, bottles & cans, & selected packaging.

Specsavers
We accept eyeglasses purchased in our store for recycling purposes.

Coles/Indigo

Hallmark
We are reducing as much product packaging in plastic as much as we can. Cards and gift wrap are almost 100% recyclable as they are made from 100% recycled paper or paper sourced from responsibly managed forests. Please visit our site for more information.

Timekeeper
We accept the used batteries that we replaced for recycling.

Telus Mobility
We recycle phones and cases and offer recycled phones for purchase. Packing materials are re-used as much as possible.

Booster Juice
Our straws and cups are recyclable. Our compost is given to customers as well as plastic sorbet buckets.

Shoe Biz
Most of our suppliers have implemented environmentally friendly boxes, etc. We recycle all paper, cardboard and applicable plastic.

H & L Dumpling House
We offer 10% off orders when customers bring their own containers, mugs, or utensils.

New Look Eyewear
We sell 2 recycled material frames. Visit in store for more info. We participate in the Lion’s Club glasses program – and upcycle old frames and lenses.

Michael Hill Jewellers
We are aiming to have all new pieces made with recycled gold. Our store has installed all new LED lighting. We are moving to mostly paperless procedures. Our recycle program allows customers to trade in old/broken pieces for higher $ return on gift cards. We are part of the Michael Hill Foundation whose motto is “Plant 10 trees for every L.A.B. purchase”. Our goal is to plant 1 million trees by 2030.
